How GPA is calculated
Each grade carries grade points — on the common 10-point Indian scale O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8 down to P = 4 and F = 0; on the 4-point US scale A = 4.0, B = 3.0 and so on with + / − steps. Your GPA is the credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by the total credits. A 4-credit core subject therefore moves your SGPA four times as much as a 1-credit lab. Courses with zero or blank credits are left out of the calculation. Some universities use slightly different grade letters or points — swap the scale or check your grade card if yours differs.

What's the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the credit-weighted average for one semester — what this calculator gives you from a semester's courses. CGPA (Cumulative GPA) averages across all semesters so far, again weighted by credits. To get CGPA, you can enter every semester's courses here, or take the credit-weighted average of your SGPAs.
Are my grades uploaded anywhere?
No. The GPA is computed entirely in your browser as you type. Course names, grades and credits are never sent to a server, logged or stored — they don't even appear in the page URL; only the selected grading scale does.
Why do credits matter — can't I just average my grades?
A plain average treats a 1-credit workshop the same as a 4-credit core course, which is not how universities compute it. Grade points are weighted by credits precisely so heavier courses count more. If all your courses carry equal credits the two come out the same; otherwise the credit-weighted number on your grade card is the correct one.
