How CGPA converts to percentage
The standard formula is percentage = CGPA × multiplier. CBSE prescribes 9.5, derived from the average marks of students in each grade band, so a CGPA of 8.2 becomes 77.9%. Many Indian universities on a 10-point scale simply use 10, and some state universities and institutes notify their own factor (or a formula like (CGPA − 0.75) × 10). Is 9.5 the right multiplier for my result?
It is for CBSE Class 10 and 12 grade-point results — CBSE arrived at 9.5 from the average marks of students scoring in each grade band. Universities differ: many 10-point CGPA universities use a flat 10, while others (Mumbai University, GTU, several state universities) notify their own conversion formula. Check your marksheet or your university's conversion certificate rules before putting a percentage on an application.
Is my CGPA sent to a server?

Why does 10 CGPA give 95% and not 100%?
Because the CBSE multiplier is 9.5, a perfect 10 CGPA maps to 95%, not 100%. That's intentional: the multiplier reflects the average marks of top-band students, not the maximum. If your institution uses a 10× multiplier instead, 10 CGPA maps to 100% — pick the 10 option or enter a custom multiplier to match your university's rule.
